D-Day procession and service in Bexhill on Sea in East Sussex on June 6 2024

The procession took place at 11.30am followed by a short service on the Metropole Lawns, next to the De La Warr Pavilion.

00:12Servicemen from the United Kingdom and Canada and the United States of America.

00:23In total, the number of those who gave their lives in the battle for Normandy

00:36Thank you for gathering here today.

00:40My thanks to members of the Royal British Legion who have organised this event.

00:47And thank you to the Mayor of Bexhill, Councillor Paul Wilson, for being here too.

00:54Welcome to additional veterans and supporters.

01:02And in our wheelchairs today, Bill, Old Cole and Childs, who is 105.

01:14General Eisenhower issued a word of encouragement to every serviceman at D-Day.

01:22It concluded with this line,

01:25Let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

01:33And thanks be to God for the success of Operation Overlord.

01:40Today, we renew our resolve to cherish freedom, hard won,

01:48dearly fought, to value our military defenders and protectors,

01:56and to stand against the bully.
