00:00One of your big concerns is how much trouble you say young men are in here in America.

00:08Well, let's look at the data.

00:10Four times as likely to kill themselves, three times as likely to be addicted, 12 times as

00:14likely to be incarcerated.

00:16Why are young men struggling?

00:19It's a variety of reasons.

00:20The education system is highly biased against boys, and in addition, our society has absolutely

00:26no empathy for young men.

00:28We hear words like accountability.

00:30We hear words like pull yourself up by your boots, or you should be more in touch with

00:33your emotions.

00:34If any group was committing, was killing themselves, at four times the rate of the control group,

00:40we'd move in with programs.

00:49Do you mentor?

00:50I do.

00:52I spend a lot of time with young men, and I say this.

00:56I think if we want better men, we're going to need to be better men.

01:08Why are you so emotional right now?

01:12I was that guy, living with my mom, not a lot of prospects or opportunities, and I had

01:21some wonderful men get involved in my life.

01:24A stockbroker, a guy across the hall that used to take me horseback riding, a couple

01:29of my mom's boyfriends who stayed involved in my life.

01:32They didn't need to do that.

01:34They were just really good men.
