00:00 This year marks 80 years since the famous D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy.

00:08 On June 6th 1944, the historic operation saw that Allied forces manned a large-scale invasion

00:16 of Nazi-occupied France that ultimately tipped the course of the Second World War in the

00:23 Around 4,400 Allied troops died and around 9,000 were wounded. A number of commemorations

00:30 will take place across the UK and France to honour those who died risking their lives.

00:37 This week paratroopers landed in Normandy to commemorate the landings 80 years ago.
