00:02 The Normandy landings were unparalleled,

00:08 one of the most significant war operations in history.

00:11 Ultimately, the invasion put the Allies on course

00:14 to defeat the Nazis in Western Europe for good.

00:17 D-Day was the largest air, land, and seaborne invasion ever.

00:23 Thousands of soldiers from all corners of the earth

00:26 played their part, and it should come as no surprise

00:29 that the invasion force included soldiers

00:31 of every color and creed on the same beaches in Normandy

00:35 as the British and Americans.

00:37 He was a courageous man, and to die at the age of 30

00:42 and not receiving his gallantry medal, that's a pity.

00:46 And I think the story needs to be out there

00:48 in the sense that, you know,

00:49 when we think about World War II,

00:50 we only think about the people as in being, you know,

00:57 white people that fought in the army,

00:59 but that wasn't the case.

01:01 There was many other people who were Hindu, Sikhs,

01:04 and Muslims, even like my grandfather was a Muslim.

01:08 They showed their commitment with the British Empire,

01:11 and they fought in the World War II.

01:15 When you look up in history,

01:16 you will find out that Rhodesia was involved

01:19 with D-Day landing, so there is a lot of people

01:22 who were involved at the time from Rhodesia,

01:27 army at Zimbabwe now, who were involved

01:30 and are still serving there, but lots of colleagues

01:32 and friends who are from Zimbabwe,

01:34 they're still serving in the British Armed Forces.

01:37 D-Day really means the start of a particular operation,

01:43 but it also, it's not something that happens in a vacuum.

01:49 And so whatever was the end result of the war,

01:57 we know that we played a part in it.
