00:00He was the greatest, and perhaps you were there when sporting legend Muhammad Ali

00:05boxed four different opponents on Wearside.

00:09It happened in 1977, when the heavyweight champion of the world

00:13fought at the Sporting Club of Washington.

00:17He stepped into the ring after pausing for photographs,

00:20and the crowd quickly showed their appreciation.

00:23The final bout was against former European champion Richard Dunne,

00:28and Ali hit the canvas three times.

00:31But he had a tremendous week in the North East, and also visited South Tyneside,

00:36where thousands packed the streets of Jarrow and South Shields,

00:40to see Ali pass by in an open-top bus.
