The long-distance classic took off under tricky conditions, with rain setting in during the warm-up lap on the 25.378-kilometre combination of the shortened Grand Prix circuit and the historic Nordschleife.

00:00This track is really special, I mean, it's 25 kilometers long, so you never have the

00:10same conditions every lap or every corner.

00:12There's so many corners also where we have rivers, so a lot of water go over the track.

00:17We have different types of tarmac, so some areas have new tarmac, some areas have really

00:23old tarmac, also with a lot of bindings.

00:25For us drivers in the wet, it can be very slippery.

00:31This track is never consistent, so you can be at the start-finish, you have heavily rain,

00:35and then you drive four minutes, you're in the middle of the Nordschleife somewhere,

00:40and then suddenly there's only a little bit of rain, or even drying up, so this makes

00:44it very difficult in the wet conditions to always take the right decisions.
