00:00Cockroach cases are exploding in France. Since January, there have already been 5,854 infections,
00:0611 times more than for the entire year 2023. But what is a cockroach?
00:11First, there is an incubation phase without symptoms, then a rhinorrhea,
00:15i.e. a nasal discharge, for 2 weeks, followed by a persistent cough for 7 days,
00:20usually without fever. In young children, the cockroach can cause serious pneumonia
00:24and neurological infections, even fatal in nurses.
00:27Cockroaches are 40 million people affected each year in the world and 300,000 deaths on average.
00:32Several elements can explain the recrudescence of the cases.
00:35On the one hand, there is the COVID-19 pandemic with its barrier gestures,
00:39which allowed for a long period of time to prevent the bacteria from circulating.
00:43The other reason invoked is the lack of vaccination recall in some children.
00:48According to a scientist at the Pasteur Institute,
00:50cockroach cases could remain on a high plateau for 1 or 2 years.
