Say no to peer pressure, kids (and adults)! The Durkins explain why leading by example is so important when it comes to lawn killing and being in harmony with nature.

About Kill Your Lawn:
Best friends Joey and Al set out across America to accomplish their mission: carry out a turficidal killing spree and leave a trail of pollinator-friendly, native plant gardens in their wake. It’s time to laugh our way to a lawn-less future!

This clip comes from Season 2, Episode 4: "After Lawn Special"

00:01 - Gonna be a fun lawn to kill though, I'll tell you that.
00:03 It's so green, it's so, you know,
00:06 there's definitely people who would have a thing for this.
00:09 And those aren't the kinds of people I like.
00:11 So this is all trash, this is gonna have to go.
00:13 That'll feel really good.
00:14 Nothing here is native, this is all garbage.
00:16 - Who's this elderly friend?
00:18 - Oh, it looks like some kind of maple, yeah.
00:22 - Oh, it's gnarly.
00:23 - Looks like it's a beautiful tree though.
00:25 (choral music)
00:28 - You can see how the grass can't cut it
00:30 beneath the maple too, I like that.
00:31 - It's already dying.
00:33 - Sitting right at the entrance to their neighborhood,
00:35 Cash and Emily hope to set a strong example
00:38 for others to follow.
00:39 Because without a good example,
00:42 it's easy to succumb to peer pressure
00:44 and engage in dangerous behaviors.
00:47 Take for example our friends the Durkins,
00:50 whose son little Henry had a close call
00:53 with the wrong crowd.
00:55 (applause)
00:56 - You sure this is the right way to do it?
00:57 - We need to confront him.
00:59 (knocking)
01:02 - Henry, can we come in?
01:04 - It's your mother and father.
01:05 - Okay, come in mom and dad.
01:08 (audience laughing)
01:12 - Hello Henry, we need to speak with you
01:14 about some things we found in your room.
01:17 - Lawn care for dummies, green grass magic.
01:21 I know you guys don't like that stuff,
01:22 I just wanted to blend in.
01:25 - Now we're not angry with you,
01:27 we're just very disappointed.
01:30 We've talked about this, you know where we stand on lawns.
01:33 - I know.
01:36 - You know there's a better way
01:37 to live more in harmony with nature,
01:40 the ecology around you.
01:42 And we know it's hard at school
01:43 because all the other children have lawns
01:46 and the children call you Mr. Weedy Pants
01:49 and Flower Field and all kinds of hurtful names.
01:54 - I see them out there every week,
01:55 mowing their lawns and it just,
01:57 I don't know, I just thought it looked cool.
01:59 - Henry, it really disturbs me to think of you
02:02 reading and being exposed to some of this material.
02:05 It just isn't right Henry.
02:07 - Now you know that there's repercussions for your actions.
02:10 - What are you gonna ground me?
02:11 - You're going to be killing a lawn every week this summer.
02:16 - Oh man, every week?
02:18 - I don't wanna hear it.
02:20 One lawn every week and it starts today.
02:26 - Oh, it just broke.
02:28 - That's my little man.
02:32 You're making me so proud.
02:38 I knew that you'd learn your lesson.
02:41 That's my little baby boy.
02:49 - Anyway, join us next week when little Henry
02:52 learns the intricacies of binomial nomenclature.
