Iran's First Vice President Takes the Helm After Tragic Helicopter Crash Kills  President Ebrahim Raisi

Iran's first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber, will serve as acting president until elections are held following the helicopter crash in northwest Iran that killed President Ebrahim Raisi and several officials. The crash killed a total of 8 people onboard, including Raisi, as well as the foreign minister and three crew members. Under Raisi's presidency, Iran further escalated tensions with the West by enriching uranium closer to weapons-grade and supplying drones and missiles to allies in the region. The crash comes amid major protests in Iran over economic issues and women's rights as well as Iran's involvement in regional conflicts like the Israel-Hamas war.
