Jia Morado- De Guzman thrilled to play with younger gunners

Multi-titled setter Jia Morado-De Guzman shared how she is grateful to play with young talented gunners in the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup.

Playing with UAAP stars and PVL aces, Morado-De Guzman hopes the team will finish strong despite the short time of preparation.

Alas Pilipinas will first take on the Australia team on May 23 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

00:00 I'm very happy with the line-up because we're strong. We just need time to prepare better.
00:06 You've played in a lot of national teams, but what can you say about this batch?
00:13 Every team that I've played for has great potential and everyone is very eager to step up for the flag.
00:21 It's no different for this team. Everyone is very willing to come and play.
00:27 But we're looking at a longer term future.
00:30 Hopefully, leading up to the SEA Games, we can retain and add more players who are willing to step up for the flag.
00:37 Each player has its own difference when it comes to approach to the ball.
00:41 How are you handling it so far, especially for a young player?
00:45 We're very clear in our communication that if we need adjustments, we'll let you know right away.
00:52 We don't have a lot of time to train. Lately, it's been three hours every day on court, but that's very short.
01:01 For example, Julia, the other setter in the team, is more familiar with the sets of the young players.
01:07 I'm more familiar with the sets of the seniors.
01:09 We're very clear in communicating, especially during overload setting drills.
01:14 We'll tell them, "These are the sets you want. You can speed up or speed up."
01:19 We're very efficient in that way. We don't want to waste time leading up to the ABC.
01:23 We're always talking about the upsides. What are the downsides when it comes to rushing, even though we know we can handle it?
01:31 We're all coming out of competition.
01:36 Everyone here in this team wanted a little bit more rest time to recover from very heavy tournaments.
01:45 Some are undergoing rehab even now, leading up to the competition.
01:50 We'll have to have rehab during competition also.
01:53 That's one thing the coaches are very clear with us.
01:57 If you're feeling anything, let us know right away.
02:01 Safety is also a big priority in this team.
02:04 We want to start the tournament as a whole, but we also want to end it as a whole.
02:09 We'll see you in the tournament.
