00:00 It's another massive one for the club. I've always kept in touch with Huie since the Pirates

00:18 days and obviously with the Bauer connection as well. We have obviously talked quite a

00:22 lot. For me, this one is big news for the club but I think for us as a team and going

00:33 into next year, I think it's somewhere we needed to improve on just to make us deeper

00:41 in quality and Huie brings that in spade. He's been there, done it, he's won it all

00:49 and I think just in general that brings that experience and know-how how to win. When you've

00:59 got a team that's new in transition, where we are now and trying to get to that point

01:07 of winning something, I think players like that are invaluable and obviously can bring

01:12 a massive amount of calmness to a situation where sometimes we might not have had it this

01:20 year. It speaks for itself. This one will go a little bit mental I think online and

01:28 the fans have had good banter with Huie since he's been coming back to Hull and this year

01:35 more so. We all know what he did for Hull when he was here. I think he's the leading

01:43 point scorer for the Pirates organisation. Like I say, he's been here before, he's comfortable

01:49 here. I trust him and I know what he can do. He wants to be here and he wants to produce

01:57 and he wants us to win. For me, that's the biggest part of it.

02:03 Last time you were here together, he had to control you on the bench. This time, you're

02:08 going to have to control him on the bench. They say that you learn a lot from all of

02:12 your former coaches when you become a coach yourself. Did you learn, presumably you learned,

02:16 that was the case with Jason as well?

02:18 Yeah, massively. The dynamic when Huie was coaching was different because he was a player.

02:27 We had such a good team in that era that we sort of just went on the ice. Talent just

02:34 won us games at times. Me and Huie always spoke and I had a lot of respect for him.

02:40 Always have done. It was easy and this will be no different. He's someone, like I say,

02:49 he's got a wealth of experience and he's had a better career than I've had. For me, that

02:56 speaks a lot of volume in terms of what he can do in terms of coming into the team and

03:01 offering that experience in the room.

03:03 I suppose essentially what you're hiding is a proven winner, wherever he's been.

03:07 Exactly, proven winner. Someone that I can trust and I know that he's going to go out

03:12 there and give his all to win. He'll die to win Huie and that's the sort of player that

03:18 I want in this team. Going forward in the club, we want to win. I keep saying it but

03:25 it's important to us and we don't just want to do this just to be here. We're desperate

03:29 to win and I think that's been the DNA since day one.

03:33 I feel good. I feel positive. I think at my stage of my career, what I've got left in

03:41 hockey, I feel like I've still got a lot to offer. I know Matty, we've talked for years

03:48 there and he spoke openly about wanting me to come back. I think at this stage it was

03:53 the right time and I just want to win. I think there's a massive opportunity to do that.

03:59 Here we are. There's been some nasty nights in here since I left but I look forward to

04:06 being on the other side of it.

04:07 A bit of role reversal for you in some ways. Obviously last time you were here, you were

04:10 sort of player coach and in charge of Matty Davis and a few others that are probably still

04:14 here. You've come back, obviously Matty Davis is coach now. You've been impressed by what

04:21 he's done so far in the two seasons. Tough first season but last season you'll have watched

04:25 on from South Yorkshire and seen such an improvement there was last year. Do you see a lot of potential

04:32 here?

04:33 Big time, especially just speaking about Matty. Obviously he was a player for me but he gave

04:38 me nothing but his all and a lot of respect. I think we're two personalities that you wouldn't

04:43 necessarily think would always see eye to eye but I think we're so similar it just works.

04:50 He'll get everything from me, he knows that and that's why we've become so close and we

04:54 did so well when we played together. We're very much on the same page. What he wants

04:59 inside the room and outside on the ice, I think I have value in both and I back my ability.

05:07 Last year was a tough one. I had some long suspensions, a couple of months with a couple

05:13 of injuries that I couldn't shake. It was a tough year all round but I look forward

05:18 to getting back being fit and whatever Matty wants from me then he'll get it.
