00:06On Friday, the Supreme Court of India granted interim bail to the Delhi Chief Minister and

00:11Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal until 1st June in a money laundering case related

00:17to the Delhi excise policy, where he is a defendant against the enforcement directorate

00:23in a case that is Arvind Kejriwal vs the Directorate of Enforcement.

00:29Reportedly, the justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta issued the order.

00:34Arvind Kejriwal has been embroiled in controversy with the ED vehemently opposing the Supreme

00:39Court's suggestion for interim bail to allow Kejriwal to campaign for the upcoming Lok

00:44Sabha elections.

00:45However, it looks like the Enforcement Directorate has largely failed to prove their arguments.

00:51The Supreme Court was hearing Kejriwal's petition challenging his arrest and remand

00:55by the ED.

00:57His appeal to the apex court followed the rejection of his plea by the Delhi High Court.

01:01During the appeal hearing on 7th May, the Supreme Court hinted at granting interim bail

01:06to Kejriwal albeit with the condition that he must refrain from discharging any official

01:11duties as Chief Minister during this period.

01:14The ED's investigation into Kejriwal's alleged money laundering is rooted in a case initiated

01:18by the Central Bureau of Investigation's CBI in 2022 based on a complaint from Lieutenant

01:24Governor of Delhi V. K. Saxena.

01:27The investigation revolved around allegations of a criminal conspiracy involving AAP leaders

01:32including Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia to manipulate the Delhi excise policy

01:37in 2021 and 2022 in favour of select liquor sellers.

01:42Kejriwal's arrest and subsequent incarceration in Tihar Jail have prompted legal debates

01:48regarding his treatment as a politician facing criminal charges.

01:52The ED argued in the court that Kejriwal must not receive any special treatment due to his

01:57However, Kejriwal's counsel contends that while he is not immune from prosecution as

02:02CM, he should be afforded the same right as any other individual.
