00:00Authorities have shared the cause of death behind three missing surfers found in Mexico.
00:05The bodies of the three were found in a hard-to-reach well near Ensenada, Mexico last week, and
00:10now authorities have confirmed the cause of death for Australian brothers Jake and Callum
00:15Robinson and their American friend Jack Carter Rode.
00:19According to NBC News, authorities explained the trio were killed in an apparent carjacking,
00:24with the Ensenada medical examiner saying that the official causes of death were gunshot
00:28wounds to the head.
00:30The three were originally considered missing on April 27th after they failed to return
00:34to an Airbnb rental.
00:36Their bodies were discovered in a remote well that was 50 feet deep, along with a fourth
00:40body that had been there longer, in La Bocana, south of Ensenada, per NBC News.
00:45According to a statement by the state's Attorney General's office, family members were brought
00:49in to make the identifications in person.
00:52Prosecutors shared during a news conference on May 6th that they suspect the carjackers
00:57were trying to steal the wheels on the pickup truck used by the surfers.
01:01Authorities said they have three people in custody, one of whom was in possession of
01:04one of the victims' cell phones.
01:06Two of the suspects were held on methamphetamine-related allegations, while the third was the subject
01:11of a kidnapping warrant.
01:13Jake, Callum, and Jack were apparently in a makeshift encampment during a trip along
01:17the Baja Coast when they were attacked, with prosecutors saying they found tents, spent
01:21gun shells, and bloodstains.
01:23Jake and Callum's mother, Deborah Robinson, was posting actively about her sons after
01:28they were considered missing, and now she and husband Martin are mourning their loss.
01:32She said during a news conference via ABC News,
01:35"...our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us.
01:39They were young men enjoying their passion of surfing together."
