I think this is a really exciting opportunity for Newcastle, as you say, bringing partners together
00:04
in one office gives us a real opportunity to share intelligence, to work really collaboratively,
00:08
to make better use of our resources, to make sure we've got visibility right across the city.
00:12
Newcastle's got some complex challenges and issues that we really want to solve, that's
00:16
being fed back to us by businesses and by the local community and this project will give us
00:19
a real platform to tackle some of those complex issues. So obviously the members of the public,
00:23
City Safe, might not mean anything but what actually is City Safe? So City Safe will see
00:27
Newcastle local authority, we'll see Northumbria Police and we'll see anyone sat in the same
00:32
office which is within the City Library within Newcastle and we're here to deal with crime and
00:37
anti-social behaviour issues, issues to do with homelessness, begging and some challenging
00:41
individuals who have gone from our street community, as well as some retail crime issues
00:45
and serious violence but the project will cover daytime issues and night time issues including
00:50
our really vibrant night time economy. Obviously you mentioned that you know the vibe that's
00:54
obviously the night time economy, obviously it's lighter nights now as well. What can people expect
00:58
to see from sort of all three organisations, especially as you say the night time economy?
01:02
A lot of this is about visibility so we want to be as visible as we possibly can,
01:07
using all three organisations resources so being at the right place at the right time,
01:10
hopefully to be proactive and prevent offences from happening so the public should feel really
01:14
reassured when they see police officers. We've got access to officers who will be highly visible
01:19
in yellow jackets but we've also got plainclothes officers who operate as part of our night time
01:23
economy and again that should hopefully give the public reassurance that we're there to tackle
01:26
vulnerability, we'll look to tackle kind of offenders who come in to cause problems within
01:30
the night time economy and to prevent serious violence so a safer city that people can come
01:34
in and really enjoy what Newcastle nightlife has to offer.
