00:00Anne Hathaway has reached an important milestone in her life.
00:05The idea of You Star is revealing that she has been sober for several years, which she
00:10sees as a huge achievement.
00:14She explains to the New York Times in an interview published on April 27th, quote,
00:19I don't normally talk about it, but I am over five years sober.
00:25That feels like a milestone to me.
00:28As for what made Anne cut alcohol out of her life, the 41-year-old tells Vanity Fair
00:33in March, quote,
00:35I knew deep down it wasn't for me, and it just felt so extreme to have to say but none,
00:42but none.
00:44If you are allergic to something or have an anaphylactic reaction to something, you don't
00:49argue with it, so I stopped arguing with it.
00:53And although Anne understands that everyone has their own relationship with drinking,
00:58she feels positive about her decision to stick with sobriety.
01:02She adds, quote,
01:04My personal experience with it is that everything is better for me.
01:08It was wallowing fuel, and I don't like to wallow.
01:12Anne, who shares two sons, 8-year-old Jonathan and 4-year-old Jack, with her husband, Adam
01:19Shulman, says that it is her role as a mother that inspired her decision to stop drinking.
01:26In 2019, the Princess Diaries alum chose to give up alcohol until her son Jonathan grew
01:32up and moved out, as she found it was affecting her ability to be there for him.
01:38He's getting to an age where he really does need me all the time, she said on Ellen at
01:44the time, noting that she was needed most in the mornings and didn't want to risk having
01:49a hangover.
01:51As Anne explained, she experienced just that one morning taking her son to school, recalling,
01:58quote,
01:59I wasn't driving, but I was hungover.
02:01That was enough for me.
02:03I didn't love that one.
