00:00 Hi Fantasia, you're pretty in red.
00:02 You look like a vision mama.
00:04 Oh, thank you.
00:05 Who is this sequined number by?
00:07 Okay, so this is Mono, and um, custom made.
00:10 And I kind of just wanted to like embody the greats that came before me,
00:14 all of those elegant women who, you know, wore things on their head and long dresses,
00:19 and it wasn't about showing anything but the silhouettes.
00:22 Well you are showing it off and showcasing it tonight.
00:26 And you should be.
00:27 You are on Time 100's list.
00:29 I mean this marks the 20th anniversary of you winning American Idol.
00:33 This year you're on Time 100.
00:35 Can you believe that this is your life?
00:37 Can I tell you something?
00:39 When I walked into the room yesterday for rehearsal,
00:41 my husband kept saying, "Babe, it's Time 100, Time."
00:44 And I was like, "Okay."
00:45 He was like, "No babe, you're not excited enough. Do you understand?"
00:48 I'm like, "I think I do."
00:49 It wasn't until I walked into the room to rehearse, to perform,
00:53 and I was like, "I know this room."
00:55 Just last year I was watching the same show and I said,
00:59 "One day I'm going to be in that room."
01:01 And a year later, here I am.
01:03 And I don't want to cry, but yeah, there's power in your tongue.
01:07 And you have to write the vision and make it plain.
01:09 And I feel like I've done that with most of my life.
01:12 Been through a lot of stuff, but I didn't stay there.
01:15 I kept high.
01:17 I just have to kiss my leading lady.
01:19 I know.
01:20 Oh my God!
01:22 My leading lady!
01:23 Look at you!
01:25 I'm so proud of y'all.
01:26 Oh my love, good to see you.
01:28 You look good.
01:30 Look at my leading ladies.
01:32 I love you.
01:34 I love y'all so much.
01:35 You look beautiful.
01:36 And congratulations.
01:37 Congratulations.
01:38 So deserved.
01:40 Thank you.
01:41 You deserve.
01:42 Thank you.
01:43 I mean that.
01:44 Thank you.
01:45 Yes.
01:46 I'm sorry, babe!
01:47 We had a whole moment.
01:48 I'm so good.
01:50 Thank you.
01:51 Thank you.
01:52 I gotta say something about both the queen and the king.
01:56 We did Color Purple together.
01:58 And I was terrified.
02:00 Because I was like, I'm going on set with all of these amazing actors and actresses.
02:05 How is this gonna work?
02:07 And they both welcomed me, took care of me.
02:11 If it wasn't for Taraji, I wouldn't have known how to come out of character.
02:14 Nobody ever taught me how to leave the character on set.
02:17 And so she would tell me, leave it here.
02:19 Let's go out to eat.
02:20 Let's go do this.
02:21 And she would pull me out.
02:22 And so Coleman would always come up to me after deep scenes and check on me immediately.
02:27 So they will forever be my family.
02:30 Yeah, we did the Color Purple together.
02:31 But any time we see each other, they will forever be my family.
02:33 Because they took good care of me.
02:35 That is so wonderful to hear.
02:37 That was such a beautiful project.
02:38 And that voice, girl!
02:40 You can bring down the house.
02:42 I'm like saying fantastic.
02:44 That was so Southern.
02:45 I know, girl.
02:46 When I get sassy, it comes down to Tennessee.
02:48 Where you from?
02:49 Okay, I hear it.
02:50 Oh, yeah.
02:51 Okay.
02:52 Yeah, it's strong in there.
02:53 I love it.
02:54 I would love to see you back on American Idol.
02:57 You know, Katy Perry is going to be leaving, so this is her last season as judge.
03:00 So, honey, there needs to be a seat taken by Miss Fantasia.
03:04 You know, I'm going to be honest.
03:06 I would love to.
03:07 I think that those kids, when they're coming into the game, I think that they need somebody
03:11 to come in and not only show them how to sing a song, but how to handle the business.
03:16 Because it's a lot.
03:17 Yeah.
03:18 You know, and so just having somebody to say, "Hey, make sure you have this.
03:21 Make sure you have that.
03:22 Okay, sing this song.
03:23 Sing that song."
03:24 Right.
03:25 Getting to know them, their upbringing, what makes you want to sing.
03:28 Why do you love this?
03:29 Why do you want this?
03:30 Right.
03:31 So, I would love to do it.
03:32 I would be a part of it.
03:33 You would crush it.
03:34 I'm going to say our hearts have gone out to the American Idol family because Mandisa
03:38 and her recent passing.
03:39 I know.
03:40 What are you going to remember about that remarkable moment?
03:42 You know, I think that we've lost two greats.
03:45 We lost Mandisa.
03:46 We lost Leah LaBelle.
03:47 Leah LaBelle was my season.
03:50 And, so young, the both of them leaving.
03:57 And I pray for their families.
03:59 But I will say their legacy, we should continue to make sure we live on, and we do it great.
04:05 You know what I mean?
04:06 But it's very, very sad.
04:08 And so, it's not much you can say other than I'm praying for her family because they lost
04:13 an angel.
04:14 But she's in heaven now.
04:15 I know she is because she was a great angel.
04:17 I love that voice, too.
04:18 Yeah, I know.
04:19 Fantasia, we are so brutal.
04:20 I love the, Fantasia, I hear it now.
04:23 Fantasia!
04:24 But you know I'm from Charlotte, Newfoundland.
04:26 I know you are.
04:27 I still live there.
04:28 That's incredible.
04:29 Keeps me humble.
04:30 Two southern gals.
04:31 Yes, I love it.
04:32 I know.
04:33 Isn't it great?
04:34 We'll have so much fun tonight.
04:35 You deserve it, sis.
04:36 Thank you.
04:37 Can I have a hug?
04:38 I would love it.
04:39 Thank you.
04:40 Thank you.
04:41 Thank you.
