Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez Confirms He Will Not Resign

  • hace 22 días
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced his decision to remain in office after threatening to resign due to a corruption investigation against his wife.
This comes after five days of reflection, after which Sánchez denounced the harassment of extreme right-wing groups and political toxicity in Spain.
Social media had been full of speculation that Sánchez could resign.
However, Sánchez's decision to remain in office was supported by socialist leaders and followers who rallied behind him.
"The smear campaign against me and my family will not stop. The important thing is that we want to thank the expressions of solidarity received from all areas. If we accept that politics is about attacking innocent people, it is not worth it," said Sánchez.
The prime minister's decision to remain in power averts a political crisis and uncertainty regarding a potential successor.
It is also viewed as a strategy to prevent Spain from facing a fourth general election in five years.
