It’s no secret that virtually anyone who plays a superhero within the Marvel universe gets absolutely ripped on the studio’s dime. Brie Larson went viral for getting Captain Marvel fit, Chris Hemsworth continues to share his Thor workouts on social media, and Hugh Jackman has been hitting the weights in anticipation of Wolverine's return for Deadpool 3. As for Simu Liu, the Shang-Chi actor claims that his superhero diet is rather “lackadaisical,” but clearly his abs haven’t heard the news. In his new film, Arthur The King, he plays a professional adventure racer, so one can assume that his Marvel muscles came in handy. However, according to Liu, they may have actively worked against him.

In Arthur The King, Simu Liu's character Leo climbs, cycles, hikes and runs his way through the jungles of the Dominican Republic alongside Mark Wahlberg’s Mikael. When asked how those Shang-Chi biceps came in handy, Liu said the following.

00:00 Do you think that getting in Marvel shape prepares you for adventure racing?
00:04 Could you do it?
00:04 Or is that a whole other endeavor that you'd have to work?
00:07 Yeah, you know, it was really shocking how little...
00:12 Oh, hello.
00:13 Do you want to kiss some more?
00:14 We can kiss some more.
00:16 I don't have to answer this question if you don't want to.
00:19 I know, I know.
00:20 Does she need something?
00:22 Because I don't want to keep her...
00:23 But yeah, it is shocking how little that helps.
00:29 Because I think with the Marvel stuff...
00:31 Well, I will say, you know, when we were doing stunt training,
00:34 that was like really good cardio and good movement.
00:36 But if you're just talking about lifting weights and doing like things for the aesthetics,
00:41 I mean, no, that stuff doesn't help you at all.
00:43 In fact, sometimes it works to your detriment because, you know,
00:46 so much of like the biking and the running, like that requires your
00:50 functional fitness level to be very high.
00:52 Right.
00:52 And it doesn't matter how, like, if you show up to set looking a certain way, it doesn't help.
00:59 So I would say no, no.
01:01 Getting in Marvel shape does not prepare you for adventure racing.
01:04 That is a whole beast in and of itself.
