00:00Some senators approved the DOTR's plan to put a motorcycle lane in EDSA as a solution to traffic.

00:22One of the solutions being studied is to put a motorcycle lane.

00:27According to the DOTR, in EDSA, all lanes are eaten by motorcycles.

00:32That's why they are helping the MMDA to address the problem of traffic that is related to motorists.

00:39But the possible solution is being discussed by the senators.

00:43Senator Chises Cudero said,

00:56But the senator's question is, is it effective?

01:44EDSA uses 170,000 motorcycles per day.

01:49Based on a study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency,

01:54in 2012,

01:56the economic cost of traffic per day in Metro Manila was Php 2.4 billion.

02:02In 2017, it increased to Php 3.5 billion.

02:07And in 2022, it increased to Php 4.9 billion.

02:12Even now, the government is supporting this through infrastructure projects.

02:18Our transport infrastructures have been designed

02:22to more than just provide permanent solution to traffic,

02:26but also enhance mobility and connectivity of people and goods.

02:31Secretary Bautista explained,

02:33aside from the lack of opportunity due to traffic,

02:36there is also less time for the family.
