00:00 What is Multiple Sclerosis or MS?
00:04 Our nerves control everything we do.
00:07 Billions of them join together to send messages from our brain to every part of our body.
00:12 Nerves in our brain and spinal cord are covered in a protective coating called myelin.
00:18 This speeds up the messages and supports the nerves.
00:21 With MS, our immune system attacks myelin by mistake.
00:26 So messages travelling along our nerves become distorted or don't get through at all.
00:32 This can affect how you see, move, think or feel.
00:36 MS is a serious condition, but symptoms can be managed and there are treatments available for most people diagnosed early.
00:45 It's a lifelong condition, so you might have questions about your MS now or in the future.
