Dragon's Dogma 2 makes no secret of its inspirations from the Devil May Cry series with its core combat loop featuring stylish melee combos and strategic uses of special abilities reminiscent of the 2001 classic Devil May Cry; unfortunately, this feels too similar without significant advancement since 2024 when first released.

Dragon's Dogma 2 pays homage to popular games such as Devil May Cry by using elements of its core combat loop from that series, like stylish melee combos and strategic use of special abilities - as inspiration. While Devil May Cry was groundbreaking at its release date, using similar mechanics without significant innovation seems like an inexcusable waste today.
Content may seem innocuous enough, such as new armor sets and weapons - yet some feel offended when purchasing sparkly unicorn costumes that clash with its established aesthetic of gameplay. Some players can become offended.
Combat is still enjoyable - climbing onto an airborne griffin is exhilarating - yet after playing for some time the novelty wears thin as enemy variety decreases while environments do not provide the environmental puzzles and interactivity found in modern open-world games.

And this wasn't due to an absence of fantastical elements - games like The Last of Us and God of War provide evidence - although in Dragon's Dogma 2, these aspects felt out-of-place with my ideal expectations of adult viewers rather than younger players as expected.
