00:00 Hello, surprise surprise it's going to be a mostly fine weekend. The key word there
00:06 is mostly, it's not going to be entirely hot and sunny the whole time but it will be a
00:10 lot more settled compared with recent months of wet weather. High pressure returns at last
00:16 having been largely absent since January and that high pressure leading to clear skies
00:22 for many of us as we begin Saturday. But gardeners beware, it will be a chilly start to Saturday.
00:27 These are the temperatures in urban areas but in rural sheltered locations could see
00:32 a touch of frost. But those temperatures will rise quickly because of the sunny skies up
00:39 and out of the country. Clear blue skies for many of us throughout the morning leading
00:44 to those rapidly warming temperatures and light winds as well compared with recent days
00:50 and weeks. Now there will be some cloud cover building by the afternoon, difficult to pinpoint
00:57 exactly where will be cloudiest but generally across central and northern parts we're going
01:03 to see a bit more cloud arriving into the afternoon and certainly to the north of the
01:09 central belt some outbreaks of rain push in because of a weak weather front. Mostly this
01:14 is light and patchy rain or drizzle. Elsewhere it's going to be dry and with the light winds
01:20 and the sunny spells continuing into the afternoon regardless of what the temperatures say it
01:25 is going to feel very pleasant indeed. The sun of course at the moment is as strong as
01:30 it is at the end of August so if you're in any of that prolonged sunshine take that into
01:35 account to make sure you do protect yourselves. High pressure slap bang over the UK as we
01:39 end Saturday and go into Sunday but these weather fronts to the north dangling their
01:44 influence into parts of northern and eventually central parts of the UK. So a finger of rain
01:50 perhaps extending from the Northern Isles into eastern Scotland, north east England
01:54 into the Midlands during the morning on Sunday. It could even bring a few light showers to
02:00 London and the south east, perhaps central southern England before returning westwards
02:05 into east Wales for example and generally petering out. But I think greyer skies through
02:11 this central swathe compared with Saturday a chance of some light and patchy rain for
02:17 a time. Sunnier conditions return to east Anglia and the south east and actually with
02:23 the temperatures in mind as well it's looking like very good conditions for the London Marathon.
02:29 Not too warm, some sunshine later on but not too sunny and mostly dry aside from the chance
02:36 of the odd spot of rain during the morning. Further west we'll keep some sunny spells
02:41 through the morning across Northern Ireland, western parts of Wales and the south west
02:44 but turns a bit cloudy at later on and it's towards the north west where we'll see the
02:48 highest temperatures 16 or 17 Celsius possible for western Scotland, western parts of England.
02:53 Northern Ireland into next week, higher pressure retains its influence but tends to move to
02:59 the north west and so there's always a chance of showers coming in to the east and south
03:04 at times. We'll keep you updated right here at the Met Office.
