Stolen ATV Pursuit - April 8, 2024

On the evening of April 7th, 2024, sheriff's deputies in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana were dispatched in reference to an ATV being stolen from a man's home. The suspect had arrived on, and left, a side-by-side that was also determined to have been stolen from a local business about a week prior.
In the early morning hours of April 8th, 2024, a deputy observed an ATV matching that description being ridden against traffic on a major highway, and turning onto a gravel road. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect - a juvenile - just kept going, ignoring the deputy's emergency lights and siren. The suspect encountered a train and couldn't go any farther, so he rode the ATV alongside the tracks on a trail too narrow for a police vehicle to follow.
Once the train was gone, the suspect rode the other direction along the tracks. Deputies were waiting for him at the next crossing, but apparently the stolen ATV ran out of gas before he got there, so he abandoned the bike and ran into the woods nearby. The suspect was not captured, but the deputies have a strong suspicion of who he might be. The stolen ATV was recovered apparently without any damage.
