Vitiligo (Predictions Of The Future)

Vitiligo treatments are advancing in leaps and bounds, and as more understanding is developed on the processes involved in the pathophysiology of this condition, we can expect to see even more progress. The JAK/STAT inhibitors have created new therapeutic opportunities that have produced remarkable results. The success of the first JAK/STAT inhibitor has opened the gates for a flood of potential drugs to treat vitiligo. After ruxolitinib, other medications such as povorcitinib and baricitinib have joined the list of potential JAK/STAT inhibitors for the treatment of vitiligo. Recognition of the central role the JAK/STAT pathway plays in the pathophysiology of this condition has created other possibilities, including medications that will block other players in the pathway like MMP-9 or other cytokines. With the current investigations ongoing, we can expect the introduction of several novel treatments in the near future that promise to finally put an end to the suffering caused by this condition.
