00:20 Indian Meteorological Department has issued an
00:23 intense heat wave warning.
00:25 For the next three months, an intense or extreme heat wave
00:28 could be gripping the country starting April, May, and June.
00:32 What's different about this heat wave, of course, is that
00:34 it's expected to be longer, drier spells, perhaps ranging
00:39 up to 10 to 20 days from the usual four to eight days.
00:43 The direct impact, of course, could be on a various of other
00:45 sectors, primarily on agriculture.
00:48 While grains could be controlled by policy measures,
00:51 the state of perishables is, in fact, something we're yet
00:54 to find out.
00:55 Will onions, tomatoes, potatoes perhaps become pricier?
00:59 Will they become dearer to the pockets of the
01:01 everyday shopper?
01:03 We're here at Delhi's Okla Sabzi Mandi to find out.

01:37 And there you have it.
01:58 We seem to be getting the sentiment that things are not
02:00 very bad off, considering that the summer season is just
02:04 beginning.
02:04 However, like I said, it's just the
02:06 beginning of the season.
02:07 We'll have to still wait and watch whether the months to
02:09 unfold will, in fact, bring about a
02:11 change in the seasonality.
02:13 So far, the beginning of April seems to have brought
02:15 seasonal lows in terms of prices, particularly for
02:17 tomatoes and onions.
02:20 It is expected that this will continue, and perhaps the
02:23 yield is good enough for it to last through the summer.
02:25 But however, if the higher temperatures will indeed lead
02:29 to crops going bad quicker, whether it reduces the
02:33 footfall of people coming to the market, purchasing from
02:35 them, is something we'll still have to track as the
02:38 months roll on.
