00:23 Yes, Susan. In more than 2,000 residents, only 7 were able to rescue their fishpond operator

00:30 here in Barangay Kabaluay, Zamboanga City because they died due to the intense heat caused by the El Niño.

00:37 Only 6 residents in 27 hectares of Palaisdaan in Barangay Kabaluay, Zamboanga City can be counted.

00:47 It's lucky that there are still some survivors who can be found because they died due to the intense heat caused by the El Niño.

00:55 In December 2023, the fishpond operators tried to recover but more died before they could be rescued.

01:10 According to the Office of the City Agriculturist, as of March 29 this year, almost 190 hectares of fishpond

01:18 were affected by the heat from 85 fishpond operators and 30 hectares of seaweed farm from 32 seaweed farmers in the city.

01:27 That's why the agency is continuing to provide assistance, like money, for their fishponds.

01:32 Actually, part of the 10.5 million intervention for El Niño approved by the local government is really the provision of assistance as well

01:41 to our fishpond operators and to our seaweed farmers.

01:45 We have procurement of bangus fries and seaweed planting materials that will be distributed.

01:52 In Cagayan, Oro City, the heat in April reached 38 to 39 degrees Celsius.

02:02 Some are still cleaning the fishpond and some are returning the cooling system like the coconut juice that is left in the street.
