2024 was supposed to be a year of recovery for builders a chance to shake free of fixed price contracts and the loss-making boom that followed the pandemic. Instead, there's been a flurry of dodgy workmanship and construction firms going under leaving customers nervous about taking the plunge on building a new home. February figures show building approvals fell again as those fears further aggravate the housing shortage.
