00:00 New South Wales SES is preparing for severe weather to impact New South Wales starting

00:11 tomorrow, Thursday, Friday and into Saturday.

00:15 What we're expecting is heavy localised rainfall over north-eastern New South Wales tomorrow,

00:23 impacting mainly the Northern Rivers area.

00:26 This rainfall is expected to be 50-70mm, although the embedded thunderstorms could see significantly

00:32 more rain.

00:33 The main risk we are going to see from this is dangerous flash flooding.

00:39 As the weather develops on Thursday night into Friday, we are expecting coastal low

00:45 to develop.

00:46 This will shift to the south throughout the day on Friday and into Friday evening.

00:51 This is expected to impact the mid-north coast, metropolitan Sydney including the Blue Mountains

00:57 before it moves to the Illawarra and South Coast overnight Friday.

01:02 On Saturday we are expecting this coastal trough to contract to the South Coast area.

01:08 During this time on Friday we are expected to see anywhere between 100-200mm of rain,

01:14 although in some parts it could be even higher than that.

01:17 We are warning the community to take action now.

01:20 Now is the time to prepare your gutters to cut away dead branches away from the house.

01:27 If you are out and about at the time and you are impacted by severe weather, we ask you

01:33 to either delay your travel and please do not drive, walk or ride in floodwater.

01:43 If the roads are flooded, do not drive through.

01:46 Find another way.

01:48 If you need to, look at Transport for NSW's website to get updates on traffic conditions.

01:55 Also if you haven't downloaded it, download the Hazards Near Me app which will have the

02:00 latest warnings that are issued by NSW SES about severe storms or flooding that may be

02:06 occurring.

02:07 What we are expecting as well is that a flood watch may be issued by the Bureau of Meteorology

02:13 later today, Wednesday.

02:15 This will warn of potential areas and catchments that may be impacted by possible riverine

02:20 flooding over the coming days and into the weekend.

02:24 We ask people to take heed of the warnings that NSW SES and the Bureau of Meteorology

02:29 issue about that and take action.

02:33 Now is also the time to prepare your own action plan for yourself and your family.

02:39 Get your essential supplies and important documents and medicines as needed together

02:47 and be prepared to follow any warnings from NSW SES.

02:53 If you are told that you do need to leave, follow the directions of SES.

02:58 If you do need assistance from SES, please call 132 500 and if it's a life-threatening

03:03 emergency please call 000 immediately.

03:07 So NSW SES has been preparing for this event for the last couple of days.

03:11 We are continuing to prepare along our zones in the impacted areas.

03:17 Zones are moving resources around, both within the zones and from outside the zones to the

03:22 areas that are under threat from this severe weather.

03:26 NSW SES zones will be standing up incident control centres to lead and respond to these

03:32 incidents and also provide warnings to the community.

03:36 We ask the community to be prepared for the severe weather which can impact it sometimes

03:41 without notice and the flash flooding can occur with limited warning.

03:46 At times you have to be prepared to take action and make safe decisions for you, your family

03:53 and your friends at the time.
