Blackpool woman Shona Thompson opens up on struggles of coming out as transgender

Shona Thompson from Blackpool says she was beaten by her mum and told she needed conversation therapy not gender reassignment, when she came out as transgender.

00:00 Well everyone this is it, I'm now on my way back to Istanbul.

00:07 It's been an emotional week and a half.

00:12 I don't know how I've managed or coped.

00:16 But it's been an amazing experience.

00:20 The hospital here have been amazing, the staff are amazing.

00:23 I can't fault them. I can't fault anything that they've done.

00:27 They've literally saved my life twice in a matter of a month and a half.

00:33 And I'll never forget my time here in Izmir, it's been amazing.

00:39 I wish I could have got out more but due to my surgery I couldn't.

00:43 So I had to basically wait and try and have one time out but I couldn't manage it.

00:50 I want to thank my wife, my kids, my family, my supporters, my followers, everyone for being there for me when I needed them the most.
