MacKenzie Scott just gave away $640 million to 361 nonprofits

The 279 nonprofits that received top scores from an external review panel were awarded $2 million.

00:05 across 361 organizations. Last year Scott promised to give $1 million to 250 organizations through an

00:12 open call for applications. Scott works with Lever for Change to evaluate all applicants and about

00:17 6,353 non-profits applied for the grants. After reviewing all the submissions Lever for Change

00:22 said the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount. So now the 279 non-profits

00:28 that receive top scores from a review panel will be awarded $2 million and 82 organizations in a

00:33 second tier will receive $1 million each. Scott has now given away $16.5 billion from the fortune

00:39 she came into after divorcing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
