SpaceOne was set to be the first private Japanese firm to send a satellite into orbit. But the ‘Kairos’ and its satellite payload came crashing down to earth.
Moments after takeoff, the ‘Kairos’ rocket exploded in mid-air. The falling debris caused a fire in the mountains just outside Kushimoto in West Japan.

“We are taking what happened in a positive way and remain prepared to take up the next challenge,” SpaceOne President Masakazu Toyoda said after the explosion.
