Behind the scenes, while people slept and went about their business, the Environment Agency has deployed a vast array of assets and skilled professionals to protect people and property.
This includes the deployment of the upgraded Foss Barrier which prevents extensive flooding in central York and the use of upstream assets to help hold back floodwater before it reaches the city.
