Bailee Madison tells THR on the carpet at the THR X TikTok Awards Weekend Party what it was like releasing her debut single "Kinda Fun." Plus, she teases what fans can expect for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2.

00:00 You recently released your first single, right?

00:02 Yes, thank you. I did. It's called "Kind of Fun."

00:06 It's available to stream wherever you stream music or buy if you're old school. I love to buy.

00:12 It's really special. It's something I've wanted to do really since I was little.

00:17 When the Actors' Strike happened, I obviously was, like so many of my creative peers,

00:22 and just creatives, like having this void of creativeness and missing it,

00:28 and wrote this song and my boyfriend produced it, who is an incredible musician,

00:32 and we thought, you know, life's too short not to put it out. So, it's out now.

00:37 What has the fan response been like for you?

00:39 It's been really special. I think it's one of those things where it's so scary

00:42 to step out of your comfort zone in any aspect of life,

00:47 and then especially because acting is obviously my first and my foremost,

00:51 but this was something that felt very vulnerable and very much for me,

00:54 and so the fact that they embraced that and saw what it was and didn't say that my voice sounded bad

01:00 meant the world to me.

01:02 Will you release more music, do you think?

01:04 I think that's the plan, yeah. We've been writing. Thankfully, I get to do it in the hands of such safety.

01:11 My boyfriend is amazing, and we just moved houses, and the music studio is now in the house,

01:17 and so we go in and we play around, but yeah, we have some things up our sleeve,

01:21 and I'm excited to get to hopefully share that soon.

01:25 I feel like you're always so busy with acting projects, too. You always have something in the works.

01:28 Because we're getting more Pretty Little Liars Original Sin, right?

01:31 Yeah, we are. It's called Pretty Little Liars Summer School this season, which is really fun.

01:37 Oh my goodness, our cast and crew worked so hard over the season.

01:40 We somehow were able to film through the writer's strike, which was amazing,

01:44 because our writers worked so hard to finish our episodes,

01:48 and then the actor's strike happened when we had ten days left,

01:50 and so we went back in December to finish up Summer School.

01:53 And in my personal humble opinion, I think this season is bigger and better than ever,

02:00 and I'm so ready for everyone to see it.

02:02 What's it been like stepping into the Pretty Little Liars franchise?

02:05 Yeah, like surreal. You just asked me that, and I continue to get goosebumps.

02:09 I remember PLL was one of the first shows that I realized what it was like to be a fan

02:15 when something new comes on every week, and I admired those girls,

02:19 and now I get to call some of them my friends and my peers and my lights in my life.

02:24 But it's an honor I don't take lightly, and it's something that my younger self dreamed of genuinely,

02:30 and so it's very full circle and kismet and lovely.

02:33 We're here tonight celebrating Oscar nominees.

02:36 Which movie would you love to see win Best Picture on Sunday?

02:40 Can I be honest with you? This question's tough for me,

02:43 only because I've had a small taste scene of what it's like to be nominated for something,

02:48 in a room that's of large scale, and there is so much love and talent that goes behind making a film

02:55 in front of and behind the screens that I genuinely don't like losers in any capacity.

03:00 I think that they're all winners, so I'd like to see them all go on stage,

03:03 but there's something special about what Barbie did.

03:07 I think more than anything, I think at a time where we're in the world of streaming

03:11 and how fast-paced things can go, Barbie reminded us that filmmaking is special in theaters,

03:16 and there is a place for films in theaters, and as someone who started off my career

03:22 usually doing films that ended up in theaters, I'm all for things that keep that going,

03:26 and for women, obviously, so I would love to see it.

03:30 So in the great Barbenheimer debate, do you choose Barbie over Oppenheimer?

03:35 I can't choose! I mean, yeah, here's why.

03:39 My hairstylist, the second season of PLL, is the biggest Barbie fan.

03:43 He collects Barbies. All we did was talk about Barbie before it came out and then when it came out,

03:48 and so I feel like if he's watching this, I have to say Barbie.

03:52 So Barbie.

03:55 You're somebody who we've seen grow up on screen.

03:57 I feel like you've been in front of the camera your whole life.

03:59 We've seen you do so many different types of roles.

04:01 What's something you haven't done yet that you'd love to do in the future?

04:04 I love that question because that is like the question of my year right now.

04:08 I was just having a conversation where I was like,

04:11 "I'm in this stage of life where I genuinely want to push myself and go out of my comfort zone

04:17 and kind of cause some havoc a little bit and commotion."

04:21 I haven't been able to do something that requires like an actual action suit of sort,

04:27 and I don't know why, but that's on my bucket list.

04:29 I would love to dive into that.

04:31 And then I love an indie.

04:33 I really think that movies are made so beautifully when it's condensed

04:37 and when everyone's there to create for art and not necessarily for a box office or a number.

04:42 And they hold a lot of heart and, I don't know, richness.

04:47 So looking for something that gets to strip back all the commotion

04:50 and just human to human share a story.
