Whimsical People (1908) | Les lunatiques | Лунатики | सनकी लोग | Colorized Version
A Pierriette, positioned beside a crescent moon, plucks five pink suits from the atmosphere. Shaking each suit, it magically transforms into a clown, who then takes a seat on the lunar surface. In perfect military synchronization, the clowns contort their faces through a series of whimsical grimaces. Leaning too far forward, they all tumble from the moon in unison. Despite the considerable descent, they eventually reach an enigmatic bottom where they engage in an eccentric dance. With each leapfrogging motion, they morph into grotesquely attired negro minstrels and then seamlessly transition into the guise of Chinamen.
The performance unfolds with several dances, during which they also metamorphose into female characters. Returning to their original personas, the five clowns defy gravity, falling upward until they effortlessly land back on the moon. The whimsical spectacle combines elements of transformation, dance, and gravity-defying antics, leaving the audience captivated by the surreal journey of the Pierriette and the colorful characters that emerge from the magical pink suits.
