00:08 How are the sound fields going in our school?

00:11 Really well so far, I've had a lot of positive feedback from teachers and students.

00:15 It's good.

00:16 Now that we have the microphones across, it helps hearing the teacher better.

00:21 What's the standing for stand for?

00:23 Adjective.

00:24 So how does it work?

00:26 Basically, the teachers have a microphone that's around their neck,

00:30 which is connected to a sound bar which is in the corner of the classroom or up the front somewhere.

00:35 And it makes their voice louder and more clear so I can cut through background noise and reverberation in the classroom.

00:41 It's a game changer.

00:42 I don't have to project my voice naturally, the microphone does that for me.

00:45 So kids right across the room can hear even my whispers.

00:49 So it's made for a much more settled class.

00:52 I'm just finding the whole peacefulness of having that ability to talk to kids that are even a long way away from you

00:58 and understanding all the learning at the same time.

01:03 Maybe we need to re-read what we wrote yesterday so the ideas are back in your head.

01:08 What did you write about yesterday?

01:10 The farmers took their motorbikes, they connected the zip line to a nearby tree.

01:16 The kids really like to have the microphone access,

01:19 and we ask for responses to questions.

01:21 We get too many kids that want to come up to the microphone,

01:23 but they purely love having their voice heard.

01:26 ...of the hole, and I put spikes and marbles in it.

01:31 And sharing the work is just, it's great.

01:34 It just puts a smile on their face.

01:36 And even today we had one child that we set a goal two days ago for them to, by the end of term,

01:41 suggest an answer or a response.

01:43 They've already stood up today because there was a microphone and read a whole paragraph.

01:47 And they would never have spoken in front of a class before.

01:49 So even those little things, giving kids confidence as well.

01:52 We're really excited at Rutherford Public School to have the sound fields in our classrooms.

01:56 We believe it's an important investment in the kids' hearing,

01:59 not only the kids with hearing loss, but those kids who potentially don't have a diagnosis

02:03 or have gone undetected.

02:05 So having those sound systems in our class that kids can hear clearly,

02:09 the teachers don't have to strain their voice as much,

02:11 we're really looking forward to the benefits,

02:15 and longitudinally where we go to from there.

02:18 And maybe trying to get the sound field systems in all our classrooms as soon as possible this year.

02:23 She's practising the words that she was taught by her family.

02:27 Soon they didn't sound so cold and sharp anymore.

02:31 They started to sound warm and soft.

02:34 Great job.

02:36 Boring.

02:39 What would you like to say to our school community?

02:42 I'd like to say that hearing loss goes undetected in a lot of students.

02:46 It's really common, more than we know.

02:48 And these systems are here for everyone,

02:50 not just the children that we know have hearing loss,

02:53 but there are a lot of kids out there that it's going to help.
