Jimmy Kimmel Hints at Possible End to His Late Night Show

00:11 Looks like Jimmy Kimmel is sticking it out a tiny bit longer, as he hints at a possible

00:15 end of his late-night talk show.

00:17 "Thanks for joining us here. We had a three-day weekend. It was an eventful weekend. Did anyone

00:25 else get sued by George Santos this weekend?"

00:29 The Jimmy Kimmel Live host reflects on the success of the long-running show with the

00:32 Los Angeles Times, explaining, "I'm as surprised as anyone could be in this position. Even

00:37 to have a really good job is a surprise to me."

00:49 Jimmy Kimmel Live debuted on ABC in 2003. Since then, Jimmy's become the longest-serving

00:54 late-night talk show host currently on the air.

00:57 "I mean, think back to the very beginning, where they're like, 'Is this gonna work?

01:02 "It is incredible that I'm still on the air. I guess I learned on the job. You know,

01:08 like, if I was a pilot, the whole plane would have crashed."

01:11 But 21 years in, the idea of retiring hit him. Jimmy telling the LA Times, "The thought

01:17 came to him during his Oscars hosting prep. I was very tired, and I had all these scripts

01:21 to go through. I had to revise and rewrite all these pitch ideas for the Oscars, and

01:26 I was literally nodding off onto my computer. In those moments, I think, 'I cannot wait

01:30 until my contract is over.' But then I take the summer off, or I go on strike, and you

01:35 start going, 'Yeah, I miss the fun stuff.'"

01:47 During the Writers Guild's SAG strikes last year, Jimmy started this Strike Force 5 podcast

02:01 It was during that time, Jimmy admitted to the guys he toyed with the idea of hanging

02:06 "As you know, I was very intent on retiring right around the time where the strike started.

02:14 And now I realize, like, 'Oh yeah, it's kind of nice to work.' I mean, you know, when you

02:19 are working, you think about not working."

02:21 "Are we to take you at your word that you were seriously considering this?"

02:25 "I really was. I think I told you that privately, right?"

02:28 But it looks like the end could be near. As Jimmy tells the LA Times, he thinks this is

02:32 his final contract.

02:34 "Each time I think that, and then it turns out to be not the case. I still have a little

02:38 more than two years left on my contract, and that seems pretty good. That seems like enough."
