00:21 >> You have a broken heart over something, a loss.
00:25 Just patting somebody else on the back,
00:27 can help you through maybe a difficult time yourself.
00:31 >> Gary says the family is heartbroken over the loss,
00:34 sharing that his son battled chordoma,
00:36 a rare cancer that originates in the spine for over five years.
00:40 He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but
00:44 he never quit trying.
00:46 Gary says that music played a big part in Mac's healing journey.
00:50 >> Seeing him come alive again and rediscover something that he thought was
00:55 kind of a part of his past, rejuvenated him so beautifully.
00:59 >> While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no
01:03 longer struggling and inspired and moved by how he managed.
01:07 >> Life is much more meaningful when you are serving and when you're helping.
01:14 >> Before his death, Mac became a part of the team at his father's foundation,
01:18 which serves to help military veterans and their families.
01:21 In a statement on the website, the Gary Sinise Foundation says,
01:24 Mac was an inspiration to all of us here.
01:27 We are heartbroken and grieving the loss of such an incredible individual,
01:31 colleague, and friend.
01:33 >> The primary heartbeat of the Gary Sinise Foundation is lifting people up and
01:36 bringing them joy and support and making sure that they know they're appreciated.
01:41 We're grateful for them and that we don't forget what they're going through.
01:45 So that's a good feeling to be able to do that.
01:47 If I didn't think it was making an impact, having an effect, and
01:51 I wasn't getting any personal joy out of seeing these people lifted up,
01:55 then I probably wouldn't have kept doing it.
01:57 But we do see a lot of reward from it, and it's wonderful that the American people
02:02 who support the Gary Sinise Foundation donate to us and
02:05 that we can pass that on to the men and women who serve.
02:09 It's a good feeling.
