Liverpool star Joe Gomez confronts Ben Chilwell after his spat with Conor Bradley in new footage from bust-up during the Carabao Cup final

Liverpool fans have been quick to hail the influence of Joe Gomez, after footage emerged of the Reds defender backing up teenage team-mate, Conor Bradley in a mid-game bust-up with Chelsea's Ben Chilwell.

The two Premier League giants played out a tense Carabao Cup final on Sunday, with captain Virgil van Dijk scoring the header to win it for the Reds at Wembley in extra time.

Jurgen Klopp's side dominated the added half hour after Chelsea had looked close to winning it in normal time, only for several chances to be wasted or saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.

While there was little in the shape of goals to talk about, there were several flashpoints in a well-contested game.

Liverpool youngster Bradley - who started at right back before moving into midfield after an injury to Ryan Gravenberch - was spotted pushing and shoving with Chilwell following a challenge on the England left back.

Bradley took Chilwell to the ground off the ball, wrapping his arms around the Chelsea player's legs in an apparent attempt to stop him from getting up and attacking.

Chilwell however reacted poorly, shoving the teenager and taking out his anger on his opponent.

Bradley initially pushes back but then appears prepared to walk away, only for Chilwell to follow him a few steps and the youngster to hold out his arms and square up in response.

However, a different clip shows Gomez coming to the aid of his teammate and is seen coming to hold back Chilwell.

It appears that after the Liverpool centre-back arrives Chilwell begins to back off, and the fight ends there, Gallagher coming to help the left-back with Gomez.

As such, several fans have taken to social media to offer their thoughts on Chilwell's behavior.

One wrote: 'Chilwell absolutely a wetwipe. Tries it on with Bradley then Elliott, suddenly pipes down when Gomez comes in front of him and tries to push him and Gomez just stands there not moving.'

Another added: 'Chilwell Changed his mind real fast when he realized he was looking up to Joe Gomez instead of trying to push a 19-year-old.'

A third claimed: 'Chilwell the little wet wipe, thinks he's the man. Gomez would eat him for breakfast.'

A fourth agreed, saying: 'Ben Chilwell is pathetic by the way. Went after Bradley and Clark and ran off when Gomez and Gakpo turned up. Hilarious.'

And another suggested: 'Chilwell was scared when Gomez came, he only wants to fight kids.'

The heated exchange was quickly defused by officials but that didn't stop Bradley from posting on social media a picture of himself standing in front of Chilwell, with his arms outstretched and seeming unbothered by the confrontation.
