Lollipop lady's kitty helps kid cross the road

Credit: SWNS   A lollipop lady has teamed up with a surprising colleague to help children across the road - her pet CAT.  Klara Remmington, 45, and Bandit, a five-year-old moggie, work a crossing together in Bushey, Herts., every weekday morning and afternoon.  The cat started tagging along a few months ago and is now a regular fixture.  School crossing patrol Klara, who has been a lollipop lady for eight years, says the children and parents at Highwood Primary love Bandit.

00:00 Bandit first started coming to the crossing with me about eight months ago.

00:03 He did it just once or twice and I didn't think much of it.

00:06 He's an outdoor cat, he does what he wants.

00:08 And then it became a bit more regular.

00:10 And then it was every morning.

00:12 And then it was every morning and every afternoon.

00:15 And it started to get to a point where the children would say,

00:17 "Is Bandit here?" when he's not here.

00:19 "No, he's not come today."

00:21 "Oh, they'd be so disappointed."

00:23 And then when he started coming every single day,

00:25 they're so happy to see him and they all want to have a stroke with him

00:29 and he absolutely loves it.

00:31 He loves the attention.

00:33 He's really happy to see the children just as much as they are to see him.

00:36 And he sits there for the whole crossing.

00:38 And then when we're done and all the children are in school safely,

00:41 he comes home with me.

00:43 And he recognises when it's time to go in the mornings.

00:46 He sees me put my coat on and my hat on,

00:48 wherever he is in the house, and he'll come with me.

00:51 Sometimes he's fast asleep and I'll put my head round the corner

00:54 and I'll say, "Going lollipopping, Bandit?"

00:56 And he's wide awake instantly.

00:58 And he's out the house and ready to join me.

01:01 And he'll follow me up and do his job.

01:03 Bandit sits with me at the crossing.

01:05 He knows not to get too close to the road.

01:07 He lets the children cross safely and doesn't follow them into the road.

01:11 And I think he's helping them learn their Green Cross code.

01:14 He knows to sit at the side of the road and wait.

01:16 Some of the children have even likened him to Street Cat Bob.

01:20 They say, "It's not normal for a cat to do this. He's like a dog."

01:23 And I said, "No, this is just what some cats do."

01:26 He's not quite as famous as Street Cat Bob, but there's hope, yeah.
