In the early 1970s English jazz pianist Stan Tracey began to work with musicians of a later generation, who usually worked in a free or avant-garde style, and from those esperiences was born his 1970 LP "Free an' one", where Tracey to his usual trio added Peter King on alto saxophone to make a quartet, and ventured into free improvisation, with angular and spiky and harmonic adventures putting the more easy listening longue jazz into the background.
