'Killers of the Flower Moon' star Cara Jade Myers shares why she almost quit acting in 2020, advice for fellow actors, and more at the SAG Awards.

00:00 Tell me about what inspired your look tonight.

00:02 Thank you. This is actually a student. He's a designer in New York and he's Native American.

00:06 His name is Jante Khan and this is his senior thesis.

00:09 Yup. And so this is inspired off of our powwow regalia.

00:13 And if you've ever seen like the fancy dances, you'll see like a lot of the ribbons when they're like dancing

00:18 and they're swooshing around. So it's very much a tribute to that.

00:22 Here we are nearing the end of award season. What has been the...

00:27 It's been a long one. But what has been the highlight of your journey with Killers of the Flower Moon?

00:33 Honestly, it's just meeting everyone and being able to experience this because this is the first time...

00:37 Oh, sorry. I just hit you. Sorry.

00:39 But this is the first time I've gone through this whole award season ceremony thing.

00:42 So for me, it's just me being like, "Okay, like this is awesome. Let's just see what it's all about."

00:49 And I love seeing like the behind the scenes stuff too.

00:53 It's been such an amazing award season for Lily Gladstone.

00:57 Looking ahead to the Oscars, how excited are you for her and just what are your hopes for her in this whole journey?

01:03 I'm hoping we actually get to go. I'm assuming she's going to go.

01:06 We haven't got the invite yet, so I'm like, "Hmm."

01:08 But no, I just, I hope she gets the career she deserves.

01:11 And since we're here at the SAG Awards, I'm asking people about the role that got their SAG card.

01:16 Do you know what role got you your SAG card?

01:18 Oh, yeah. What was it? I think it was... It was pretty... It was like student films.

01:24 I think I did enough student films that I got my voucher and then I went in and paid for it.

01:31 The good old voucher.

01:33 And do you know at what point you remember the first time somebody asked you what your job was

01:39 and you said, "I'm an actor," and claimed it as, "This is my job. This is my career."

01:43 Yeah, it's funny because as an actor, there's times where you're like, "I'm an actor," and you're confident

01:48 and times you're like, "Well, I'm trying to be an actor," you know?

01:51 So I think it definitely started... It was probably more recent because I was going to quit acting in 2020.

01:57 I was going to just... Because I was like, "It's not really going too much. I'm making more progress on writing,

02:02 so I'm just going to stick to writing because it's still storytelling. It's creative."

02:06 And then we started auditioning for Killers at the end of 2019 and I was like, "Oh, this is really cool."

02:12 And then 2020 came and then it was a pandemic, so I didn't hear anything.

02:15 And then at the end of 2020 is when I got the call that I booked it.

02:19 So I was like, "Okay, well, I guess I'm an actor now. I will claim it now."

02:24 What advice would you give to fellow actors who are in that sort of spot of feeling like,

02:28 "Maybe this is taking too long and I should give up." How would you encourage them to keep going?

02:32 Yeah, I've been acting for about 15 years. I've been out in LA, I want to say, for about 13 years.

02:37 So it's definitely been a long road and it's still been a long road of no's.

02:41 So I think it's just you have to believe in yourself.

02:45 Because even my mom would be like, "When are you getting a real job?" kind of thing.

02:48 And so it's like you have to have that conviction of like, "No, this is what I want to do."

02:53 And even though people don't understand it and people doubt it, if it's what I'm meant to do, it's what I'm meant to do.
