In “Chicago Typewriter” Episode 5, the story continues to unfold in two timelines, the 1930s and the 21st century1.

Tae-min recalls a time ten years ago when he was caught reading Se-joo’s rough draft of Fate1. Se-joo allowed him to continue reading while observing his reactions1. After a few minutes, Se-joo asked for his opinion1. Se-joo felt defeated, believing the narrative was a lost cause if it didn’t capture his reader by the second page1.

In the present, Se-joo burns Jin-oh’s latest pages1. Tae-min’s parents argue about their son’s future1. His father, Writer Baek, believes that Tae-min should quit if he needs his father’s legacy to make a name for himself1. Tae-min’s mother, however, sees nothing wrong with doing anything for the sake of their son’s future1.

Tae-min, upset by his parents’ argument, takes out his frustration on his cat, Kitty Seol1. Later, Bang-jin advises Seol to quit the errand service and return to being a vet1. She is excited to hear that Seol has decided to work at the animal clinic on a part-time basis1.
