Malaysia's gig economy is in the spotlight once again as the debate over the necessity of a dedicated regulatory authority persists. Calls for the establishment of a Gig Economy Commission, largely led by Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi, have been met with government promises of Cabinet consideration, or assertions that existing structures are already sufficient. Does Malaysia need a Gig Economy Commission to address the challenges of the gig economy? What are the potential obstacles that might arise in its implementation?
