New York Democrat Tom Suozzi Wins Special House Election, Cuts Slim GOP Majority
  • 2 months ago
Democrat Tom Suozzi has won the special election for New York's 3rd Congressional District, replacing former Rep. George Santos who was expelled. Suozzi defeated Republican candidate Mazi Pilip to flip the seat from red to blue. Suozzi's imminent swearing-in to Congress will bring House Democrats to 213, just shy of the GOP's 219 majority, limiting Republicans to a two-vote margin to pass party-line legislation. Santos was expelled from Congress last year due to criminal charges including misusing campaign funds.
