00:00 From the day I woke up in prison realized the mistakes that I had made in the pain and the
00:03 pain that I had caused people. Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our
00:08 picks for the celebrities who hit rock bottom before they could reach the top.
00:12 You can start over now be a real person.
00:15 Will Smith. Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down.
00:23 Just before he became one of the most beloved actors of the 90s he had a slight run-in with
00:27 the law. In between his stint with DJ Jazzy Jeff and his role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,
00:32 Smith was arrested after having been accused of attacking a promoter. He was hit with several
00:37 charges ranging from assault to criminal conspiracy. They were eventually dropped.
00:42 However, he still served a single night in jail. He turned his image around seemingly determined
00:47 to leave his past behind.
00:48 We ain't on no government list, we straight don't exist, no names and no fingerprints.
00:53 Saw something strange, watch your back, cause you never quite know where the MIB's is at.
00:57 He managed to achieve that early on in his career quickly exiting his messy era
01:02 and becoming synonymous with other wholesome tv personalities. From there his career only
01:07 skyrocketed and it's wild to think it was almost completely derailed.
01:11 You forgot who you are and where you came from.
01:14 You think you're so wise, look at me when I'm talking to you.
01:22 Khloe Kardashian.
01:23 Did you know that I got kicked out of my DUI class while I was in Australia?
01:27 Two years ago I did something stupid, I got a DUI.
01:34 Just as her career on television was about to begin, the youngest sister of the infamous
01:38 family was caught driving under the influence of alcohol. While she was able to evade hard time,
01:44 she was paroled.
01:45 I literally just have to go and get an extension from the judge.
01:48 As the show took off, Khloe became less stringent about meeting her guidelines.
01:52 In 2008, she was detained for violating the terms of her parole.
01:56 She was sentenced to up to 30 days in jail.
01:59 While the sentence was already lax, she ended up being released after just a few hours due
02:04 to overcrowding. However, Khloe has made it clear that she's learned from her mistakes.
02:08 She has recentered her focus in recent years and has become both a successful businesswoman
02:14 and a loving mother.
02:15 Your sister's going to jail, have a little compassion.
02:19 Kim, would you stop taking pictures of yourself? Your sister's going to jail.
02:23 50 Cent
02:24 Some people are born into unfortunate circumstances where they have to do what
02:27 they can to survive. This was the case for rapper 50 Cent, who started selling drugs as a teenager.
02:33 This culminated in him selling to an undercover cop, which led to his arrest at 19 years old.
02:45 Things only got worse as more paraphernalia was found in his home.
02:48 He came close to receiving a harsh sentence. At the last second, he was sent to boot camp instead.
02:54 This ended up being the best possible situation for him, as it helped him earn his GED.
02:59 After being released, he became the rapper we know and love today.
03:08 His story is important, as it focuses on what the prison system should be about, rehabilitation.
03:14 Toastin' to the good life, moved out the hood, now you tryna pull me back, guys.
03:18 Bruno Mars
03:19 Around the time of the release of his debut album,
03:22 the singer was nearly imprisoned after being caught with cocaine.
03:25 Trips to Puerto Rico, say the word and we go. You can be my fleeka, girl I'll be your fleeka,
03:32 mama, sister.
03:33 The court took leniency on Mars and commuted his sentence in favor of a fine,
03:37 community service, and swearing to not get into legal trouble for at least a year.
03:41 He was also enrolled in an addiction program, which helped him keep himself out of hot water.
03:46 He took the second chance to heart, immediately turning everything around
03:50 and becoming one of the biggest musicians of his generation.
03:52 He's expressed regret for his actions and has since denounced the entire night.
04:01 We can't but be thankful for his second chance as well,
04:04 seeing the amount of pure bops he's dropped since then.
04:07 Stephen Fry
04:16 Anyone can turn to misdeeds, even those you least expect.
04:19 While Fry is seen as one of the most clean-cut celebrities of his time,
04:33 he still had his run-ins with the law in his youth.
04:35 After indulging in a bout of credit fraud, Fry was sentenced to serve time in a romance
04:39 center in the United Kingdom. While these events could have been the start of a lifetime
04:43 in and out of jail, Fry proved to himself and others that he could change.
05:02 After his sentence, Fry applied and was accepted into Cambridge University,
05:06 already showing that his previous brushes with crime were behind him. From there,
05:10 he completely reinvented himself, morphing from a troubled teen
05:14 into one of the greatest intellectuals of his time.
05:16 Felicia Pearson
05:31 She had lived a whole life before even hitting adulthood. As a teen, Pearson was taken in and
05:36 convicted on a murder charge, resulting in two back-to-back sentences. While this could have
05:41 ended her life before it even started, she was given the ultimate second chance. She was freed
05:46 early and was determined to shift things around. A few years after that, she happened to meet one
05:58 of the actors from The Wire, and from there, the rest is history. She was able to tap into her
06:03 darker past and deliver a realistic yet emotional performance that still resonates with people to
06:09 this day. While she doesn't have a perfect record, she's more than proven that she's
06:14 no longer the impulsive teenager she once was.
06:17 Snoop Dogg
06:41 Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Snoop had been in and out of jail for various drug and weapons
06:46 charges. However, his most prominent and controversial charge occurred in the 1990s,
06:52 when he was being accused of first-degree murder. He was eventually acquitted,
06:57 giving him the opportunity to drop his debut and become the iconic rapper and persona we know today.
07:08 He has shown genuine development throughout his adulthood and has visibly softened over the years.
07:13 From appearing in children's shows and collaborating with Martha Stewart,
07:16 he has shown that anyone can grow and change, even the people you least expect.
07:20 Tim Allen Before he was starring in children's movies,
07:29 he was doing time behind bars. In the late 1970s, Tim Allen was caught with copious amounts of
07:35 illegal substances, which he had been trying to bring onto an airplane. He was hit with a drug
07:45 trafficking charge, and a plea deal was the only thing keeping him from receiving a life sentence.
07:50 He was eventually paroled, and a few years later, he began his career as a comedian.
07:55 Marty Call
07:56 It seems hard to believe that someone who has taken on several wholesome roles,
08:09 such as Buzz in Toy Story, would have such a sordid past. But he has showcased that he isn't
08:14 the same man he used to be several times throughout his career.
08:23 Mark Wahlberg While he's become a popular entertainer now,
08:27 he didn't have the easiest start. As a teenager, Wahlberg assaulted two Vietnamese-American men
08:32 while allegedly under the influence of hard drugs. He was arrested for these crimes and
08:37 was sentenced to a few months in jail, although he only ended up serving 45 days.
08:41 Mark Wahlberg
08:53 The event remains a dark spot on his reputation, although he atoned for his actions. This
08:58 included an apology to one of the victims, who ended up forgiving him.
09:10 While the road to forgiveness, both from himself and others, was a long one,
09:14 he eventually made it. He's now one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood,
09:18 and has made a 180-degree turn from his past self.

09:51 Danny Trejo He's the ultimate success story
10:02 While most celebrities ended up behind bars after just one incident, he spent the greater
10:07 part of his youth locked up. Trejo had been in and out of prison for various crimes,
10:12 from childhood into adulthood. He even nearly received the death penalty after an altercation
10:23 with a guard. However, he's refused to let his old decisions control him. He worked hard to
10:28 build himself back up, and by the 1970s, he had been released. Trejo worked for years at various
10:34 jobs before finally getting his big debut in the 1980s. Since then, he's gone on to become a beloved
10:40 actor. He's the ultimate proof that your past doesn't have to define you for the rest of your
10:45 life. Have any of your favorite
10:58 stars had a brush with the law? Let us know in the comments below.
