Bentley's Latest One-Off Bentayga Is Inspired by Exclusive White VC Fashion Brand and Its War Hero Founder.
After serving in the First World War, Private Jack White rose to the top of a local coat maker that became one of the UK's most luxurious fashion brands.
If you see a dapper Brit wearing a smart coat, there's a good chance he bought it from fashion brand Private White VC. The brand is named after a war hero who fought in the First World War and inspired one of Bentley's last models.
Private Jack White (née Jacob Weiss) is the name behind the brand and serves in Gallipoli and Mesopotamia. In 1917 his battalion was attempting to cross the river when it came under machine gun fire. White attached a copper telephone cable to his boat, jumped overboard, and swam the boat toward shore.
Tragically, most of his battalion died in the incident, but he managed to save his officer's life and retrieve valuable supplies. In honor of his bravery, Private White was awarded the Victoria Cross and after returning home he began an apprenticeship with a local raincoat manufacturer and in 1937 became the outright owner of the company that bears his name.
To celebrate the privateer's achievements, Mulliner, Bentley's in-house personalization department, modified a Bentayga Azure for a local customer. In a nod to the telephone wire that Private White used to save his officer, the SUV was filled with copper detailing, including seat pipes, embroidery and organ stops.
In addition, the Victoria Cross emblem is embroidered on the headrests and the Private White VC brand text is stitched on the seat backs. Mulliner added a sketch of “Cottenham House,” the factory where the brand's clothes are produced, to the control panel.
Bentley's kit also included loose cushions covered in cashmere woven in Lancashire, bearing Private White's regimental blanket strip. Finally, the Bentayga's door pockets feature an embroidered bulldog, the fashion brand's unofficial mascot.
On the outside, the SUV is painted in a shade of blue called Dark Sapphire with Blackline specification details and features Exclusive White VC badging throughout, alongside 22-inch gloss-machined colour-matched wheels.
Unfortunately, you can't buy one of this particular Bentayga because there's only one and it's already spoken for. In addition to the SUV, the buyer also received an exclusive capsule collection of bespoke clothing from Private White VC.
