Stephen Smart, from Halfway, Sheppey, talks about his Wild West hobby
Transcript
00:00 I just had a fascination for the Wild West. It started with country music and I wanted somewhere
00:06 to go basically and I built the town. I started with like little buildings and then the saloon
00:15 and then it just took off from there. I mean I'm not a carpenter I just do it as I think it's going
00:20 to be and it's well it's been here like 25 years so it hasn't fallen down so it's pretty cool I
00:26 would have thought. From the front is it like you say it looks good I think it looks good people say
00:32 it looks good and then when they come in they knock the door and ask if they can take some photos
00:38 and then I'll say to them well if you want you can come and look at the garden as well so they do
00:42 and well they're just fascinated they just can't believe that they're going into a garden which is
00:48 built like this it's not a normal garden. We've got the bank, we've got the livery, we've got the general
00:56 store, we've got the undertakers, we've got the marshal's office, we've got the jailhouse, we've got the
01:04 old shack and then we've got the haberdashery and then here in the saloon. I actually had my
01:14 wedding reception down here my daughter's 16th she had her party here and we just saw my wife's
01:24 50th we had big parties and all that and we have parties all the time in the summer it's lovely
01:29 you know and it's just somewhere to go you know rather than go out. A lot of people ask why some
01:34 people think I'm an idiot you know they think I'm really mad to have done it but when they actually
01:39 see it it changes their mind. It's a hobby I mean it's like somebody going to play golf isn't it
01:45 they have to buy new clubs while I have to buy a new roof!
