00:02 The celeb was best known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies,
00:06 and more recently for his role in the hit Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.
00:11 The news of the Louisiana native's passing has been confirmed by his manager, Matt Luber, to NBC News,
00:17 with his family saying in a statement, "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers.
00:23 He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.
00:28 Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life."
00:33 The statement continues, "Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports,
00:39 he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations.
00:45 He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend."
00:50 Carl, who began his career as a linebacker for the Oakland Raiders, made his transition to acting in 1975.
00:57 Scoring his big break just a year later when he landed the role of Apollo Creed in Rocky.
