New Miloo Xplorer Beast E-Bike 2024, Made from Recycled Nespresso Capsules

This powerful electric mountain bike is designed for maximum performance both on and off road and is made from a stylish carbon fiber frame. But the Swiss company recently collaborated with Nespresso to create a version of the Xplorer made not from carbon, but from recycled Nespresso capsules. It is now undeniable that Nespresso capsules are not the best thing for the environment, as every cup of coffee you enjoy automatically requires waste in the form of used capsules.
The partnership between Nespresso and Miloo offers a small solution to this waste problem, as Nespresso's capsules are made from aluminium. As part of the collaboration, Nespresso will supply recycled aluminum to Miloo, which will then use it to make frames and wheels for its e-bikes. Miloo found that other recycled materials were also used in other components of the bike, such as the tires, seat and grips (all made from recycled rubber to some degree). The bikes' paint and packaging are also said to contain recycled materials.
Currently, Nespresso operates a large recycling facility in Switzerland with more than 3,700 collection points. It's part of the brand's Home Recycling program, which launched in 2012. Operated in partnership with Swiss Post, used Nespresso capsules are easily collected from users' homes and delivered to the company's recycling facility. Nespresso is trying to give coffee capsules a better image in Switzerland through its collaboration with Miloo, as well as capsule recycling initiatives as a whole. The company claims to recycle approximately 72 percent of used Nespresso capsules through 3,700 collection points.
As for the bike itself, it's a pretty good kit. It draws on tried and tested technologies from some of the industry's most trusted suppliers. For example, a powerful engine developed jointly with Bafang is used. Miloo claims a power output of 1,000 watts and 160 Nm (118 pound-feet) of torque, and a top speed of 28 miles per hour (though the bike may be limited to 15 miles per hour to comply with European e-bike regulations).
The motor utilizes a torque sensor to provide natural-feeling pedal support. When it comes to battery, Miloo uses LG 21700 cells for maximum energy density and efficiency. Other nifty features include a Kindernay geared hub and Gates' optional carbon belt drive. You can even fit a dual battery setup to the bike for longer rides.
In terms of pricing, the carbon fiber Miloo Xplorer Beast commands a premium of CHF 10,899, or around $12,600. There's no word yet on pricing for the Xplorer Beast, which is made from recycled Nespresso capsules, but a post from Official on LinkedIn says the product will launch in spring 2024.
