Have we entered a new phase of humanity? Well, maybe. That is if Elon Musk’s most recent endeavor Neuralink brain implant is a success. Musk has made some grandiose claims about his brain implant’s capabilities before, but will it work?

00:05 Well, maybe.
00:06 That is, if Elon Musk's most recent endeavor,
00:08 the Neuralink brain implant, is a success.
00:11 Musk has made some grandiose claims about his brain implants capabilities before,
00:15 suggesting they could act as a Fitbit for your brain,
00:18 or even improve cognition,
00:19 stimulating brain activity and solving conditions like autism and schizophrenia.
00:24 That is all yet to be seen.
00:25 And first, they need to actually implant one inside someone's head.
00:29 And apparently they have.
00:30 Musk recently posted on Axe, quote,
00:32 "The first human received an implant from @neuralink yesterday and is recovering well.
00:37 Initial results show promising neuron spike detection."
00:40 So what is the device meant to do for the trial?
00:42 Well, when they were recruiting candidates in September,
00:45 Neuralink said they were looking for those with spinal cord injuries,
00:48 specifically those with paralysis in all four limbs.
00:51 The company says their first product will be telepathy,
00:54 which enables control of your phone or computer,
00:56 and through them, almost any device just by thinking.
00:59 Initial users will be those who have lost the use of their limbs.
